HOME CARE SERVICES
Madonna Perinatal Services is licensed by the New York State Department of Health as a Home Health Care Agency for the specialized home care of the high-risk patient.
Our HOME CARE PROGRAM allows patients to remain at home and receive quality antepartum maternal and fetal surveillance. Patients who have been admitted to the hospital for antepartum care can easily be discharged after a shorter hospital stay, and can continue their pregnancy without the hardship of a prolonged hospitalization.
Patients who are candidates for HOME CARE include those obstetrical patients on restricted activity due to:
- Threatened Preterm Labor
- Incompetent Cervix
- Mild Pregnancy Induced Hypertension
- Premature Rupture of the Membranes
- Antepartum Bleeding
- Multiple Gestation
- Hyperemesis Gravidarum
Initial Nursing Assessment
On the initial visit, our perinatal nurse clinician will assess the home environment. A complete nursing history is obtained and a nursing care plan based on your doctors orders and nursing assessment will be generated.
Fetal Testing
Non-Stress Tests, Biophysical Profiles, Amniotic Fluid Indexes, Umbilical Doppler Flow and other antepartum tests can be performed as ordered in the home setting. Reports are telephoned to your doctor the same day as the home visit. Perinatal consultation is available.
Preterm Labor Prevention
For those patients diagnosed with premature labor, our nurse clinicians can monitor for uterine contractions and irritability on an intermittent or daily basis. Preterm labor prevention education is also an integral part of this service. A self-palpation program is also available.
Medications
Intramuscular and subcutaneous medications can be administered as ordered. In addition, Home Infusion Therapy can also be provided for patients with hyperemesis and preterm labor, including Terbutaline Pump Therapy and progesterone therapy.
Laboratory Work
We can obtain blood and urine for testing as ordered by the physician.
Nutritional Services
Our registered perinatal dietitians are available for dietary counseling in the home. In addition, patients can receive diabetic counseling, home glucose monitoring instruction and teaching of insulin administration.
Psychological and Emotional Support
Our perinatal nurse clinicians give patients the psychological and emotional support necessary to foster compliance with your doctors orders.
